Women's Swimming & Diving Falls To Westfield State In Dual Meet Action

DARTMOUTH, Mass. --  The UMass Dartmouth women’s swimming & diving team dropped a 123-86 dual-meet decision to Westfield State on Saturday afternoon at the Tripp Natatorium.

Junior Molly Harrington (Tewksbury, Mass.) took top honors in both the 50 (26.34) and 100 yard freestyle (59.13) on the day for the host Corsairs (1-4), who also received a first place finish from junior Sarah Murphy (Braintree, Mass.) in the 1,000 yard freestyle (11:48.20).  Murphy also added a pair of runner-up performances in both the 400 yard individual medley (5:04.78) and 200 yard breaststroke (2:43.71) for UMass Dartmouth.

Juniors Tara Clark (Southgate, Mich.), Abigail Wilson (Newburyport, Mass.) and Kayla Lovy (Londonderry, N.H.) also recorded respective second place finishes in the 200 yard freestyle (2:18.90), 200 yard butterfly (2:38.68) and 100 yard freestyle (1:02.53) for the Corsairs, who also received a runner-up performance from freshman Maddie Kovach (Oxford, Conn.) in the 200 yard backstroke (2:17.89). 

The quartet of Kovach, Clark and sophomores Rebecca Vermette (Southbridge, Mass.) and Brianna Johnson (Plymouth, Mass.) won the 200 yard medley relay with a time of 2:10.86 for the hosts, who also received a winning performance from the tandem of Kovach, Lovy, Wilson and Harrington in the 200 yard freestyle relay (1:48.54).

UMass Dartmouth hosts Clark in dual-meet action next Saturday afternoon at the Tripp Natatorium beginning at 2:00 pm, while Westfield State travels to Plymouth, N.H. next Saturday afternoon to take on Plymouth State in a dual-meet that begins at 1:00 pm.
