Swimmers Move On at NEISDA Championships

WHITE RIVER JUNCTION, VT-The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's swimming team continued to perform well on the second day of action at the three-day New England Intercollegiate Swimming and Diving Association Championships at the Upper Valley Aquatic Center here Friday. The women are currently 10th with 281 points, while the men are fifth with 247 points.

For the women, sophomore Maggie Conlon (Methuen, MA/Methuen HS) was 11th in the B final in the 400 yard individual medley in 4:59.45, sophomore Morgan Cooper (Sunderland, MA/Frontier Regional HS) was 12th in the 50 yard butterfly was 12th in 29.05 seconds and 11th in the B final in the 200 butterfly in 2:03.36, sophomore Lindsay Days (Mattapoisett, MA/Bishop Stang HS) was 21st in the C final in the 100 breaststroke in 1:17.12, the 200 medley relay team of Conlon, Cooper, senior Lindsay Little (Danvers, MA/Danvers HS) and Brittany Dupuis (Milford, MA/Milford HS) was 12th in the B final in 2:00.90, while the 600 freestyle relay team of sophomore Meredith Maki (Holden, MA/Wachusett Regional HS), Little, junior Kim Moore (Billerica, MA/Billerica HS) and Conlon was 10th in 8:32.11.

For the men, senior Craig Johnson (Acushnet, MA/New Bedford HS) was second in the 50 A final in the 50 yard butterfly in 23.43 seconds while senior David Adams (Tyngsboro, MA/Tyngsboro HS) was fourth in 24.25 seconds, sophomore Matt Dean (Londonderry, NH/Londonderry HS) was 11th in the B final in the 100 yard breaststroke in 1:03.47, sophomore Kevin Janofsky (Brookfield, CT/Brookfield HS) was 11th in the B final in the 400 individual medley in 4:41.10, junior Tom Silva (Seekonk, MA/Seekonk HS) was 13th in the B final in the 200 freestyle in 1:55.02, and freshman Eric Frohman (Woodbridge, CT/Amity HS) was 10th in the B final in the 100 backstroke in 57.56 seconds. The 200 yard medley relay team of Frohman, Dean, Johnson and Adams was fourth in the A finals in 1:39.51, while the 800 freestyle relay team of senior Andrew Haughey (West Springfield, MA/West Springfield HS), Adams, Dean and Johnson was fourth in 7:24.91.

"We are having a phenomenal meet with some unbelievable swims," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Cathy Motta. "We have four individuals and two relay teams going to ECACs in Pittsburgh next weekend. I can't even tell you how fast people are swimming." The championships will conclude Sunday.
