NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA-The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's swimming teams fell to visiting Babson in their first dual meet of the season at the Tripp Athletic Center Saturday. The women lost, 123-107, while the men fell, 162-80.
For the women, Corsair winners included freshmen Morgan Cooper (Sunderland, MA/Frontier Regional HS), who won the 200 yard freestyle in 2:04.68 and the 100 yard butterfly in 1:04.21, Maggie Conlon (Methuen, MA/Methuen HS), who won the 200 yard individual medley in 2:23.95, and Cecelia Rius (Rockville, MD/Richard Montgomery HS), who won the one-meter diving competition with a score of 181.35. The lone men's winner was freshman Jake Pesante (Wakefield, RI/South Kingston HS), who won the 100 yard freestyle in 11:20.70.
"The women's meet was a great meet," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Cathy Motta. "It came down to the last two events. On the men's side, Babson's depth was too much for the Corsairs to overcome."
The Corsair women are now 0-1 while the men are 0-1. The Corsairs will return to action when they visit the University of New England next Saturday at 1 p.m. Babson's men are now 2-0, while their women are now 1-1. The Beavers will host Brandeis on November 12th.
