NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA-Several swimmers did well at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's swimming team at the UMD Invitational at the Tripp Athletic Center Saturday. No team scores were recorded at the meet.
For the women, sophomore Morgan Cooper (Sunderland, MA/Frontier Regional HS) led the way, winning both the 50 yard breaststroke in 33:45 seconds, and the 100 yard breaststroke in 1;14.40. Men's winners included freshman Christian Francia (Hampton, NH/Winnacunnet HS), who won both the one meter diving with 213.00 points and the three meter diving with 204.15 points, sophomore Matt Dean (Londonderry, NH/Londonderry HS), who won the 50 yard breaststroke in 30.15 seconds, the 200 yard freestyle in 2:00.76, and the 200 yard individual medley in 2:18.91, senior David Adams (Tyngsboro, MA/ Tyngsboro HS), who took both the 50 yard butterfly in 25.50 seconds and the 100 yard butterfly in 59.31 seconds, sophomore Chris Dodge (Holden, MA/Wachusett Regional HS), who won both the 50 yard backstroke in 29.78 seconds, and the 100 yard backstroke in 1:05.76, sophomore Kevin Janofsky (Brookfield, CT/Brookfield HS), who won the 100 yard breaststroke in 1:12.88, and senior Craig Johnson (Acushnet, MA/New Bedford HS), who won the 500 yard freestyle in 5:38.14. The 200 yard medley relay team of Dodge, Dean, Adams and Johnson was victorious in 1:48.85.
"This is a non-scoring meet that we hold annually to allow student-athletes to compete in events that they may not otherwise be able to swim during a typical collegiate dual meet," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Cathy Motta. "It also allows the coaches to take a look at other events that their swimmers may be able to qualify for championships in."
The Corsairs will return to action when they visit Bentley next Saturday.
