NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA-The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's women's swimming team finished third in a five-team field at the Little East Conference championships at the Tripp Athletic Center Pool Saturday.
The Corsairs finished with 259 points. Keene State repeated as the champion with 535 points, and Eastern Connecticut State was second with 303. Western Connecticut State was fourth with 221 points, and Plymouth State finished fifth with 153.
For the Corsairs, senior Kathleen Foley (Haverhill, MA/Haverhill HS) was third in the 200 yard individual medley in 2:23.68, and seventh in the 100 yard breaststroke in 1:12.87. Sophomore Kim Moore (Billerica, MA/Billerica HS) was fourth in the 1650 freestyle in 19:28.01, and fifth in the 500 freestyle in 5:48.59. Freshman Morgan Cooper (Sunderland, MA/Frontier Regional HS) was fourth in the 100 freestyle in 57.59 seconds, fifth in the 200 freestyle in 2:06.28, and sixth in the 100 butterfly in 1:04.76. Freshman Maggie Conlon (Methuen, MA/Methuen HS) was fifth in the 100 yard backstroke in 1:05.78, and sixth in the 200 backstroke in 2:24.51, while freshman Cecelia Rius (Rockville, MD/Richard Montgomery HS) was third in both one meter diving (182.10 points) and three meter diving (159.45 points).
"I was very pleased with our performance," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Cathy Motta. "Our goal was to improve upon our finish last year, which we did. Many people swam personal and seasonal bests, and, overall, we are ahead of where we were last year. Our depth this year helped us to a better finish."
The Corsairs will return to action when they host Elms next Saturday.
