NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA-The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's women's tennis team won all seven contested matches and blanked visiting Newbury, 9-0, in a non-conference match at the UMass Dartmouth athletic complex Thursday.
Junior Nicole Pelletier (Swansea, MA/Case HS) won twice for the Corsairs, defeating senior Jennifer Swafford (Merrimack, NH/Merrimack HS) at number one singles, 6-2, 6-2, and teaming junior Elizabeth Cignoli (Springfield, MA/Cathedral HS) to down Swafford and senior Alexandria Derderian (North Providence, RI/North Providence HS) at number one doubles, 8-1.
Junior Alex Post (Plymouth, MA/Plymouth North HS) won the most closely-contested match of the day, defeating junior Sarah Harris (Easton, CT/Joel Barlow HS) at number two singles, 0-6, 6-2, (10-0).
"It was a nice win," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Ralph Perry. "Alex Post's match was definitely the Match of the Day. She lost the first, came back with good ground strokes in the second, then won 10 straight points in the super-tiebreaker to win the match. We played well, and we'll be tested when we go to Plymouth State Saturday."
The Corsairs improved to 3-0 with the victory, while Newbury dropped to 1-3 with the defeat. UMass Dartmouth will return to action when they visit Plymouth State Saturday. The Nighthawks will visit Lesley Saturday.
