NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA-When looking to hire an assistant coach, UMass Dartmouth women's tennis Head Coach Doug Chapman returned to his roots in Somerset, MA. Kayleigh Holt joins the Corsairs from the successful tennis program at Somerset-Berkley Regional High School, where she assisted her father, Blue Raiders' girls' tennis Head Coach Peter Holt, for the past several seasons.
A four-year starter and three-time Eastern Athletic Conference All-Star at Somerset High School, Kayleigh Holt played number one singles and was a captain for the Raiders during her junior and senior years. She played No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles for four-years at Emerson College, where she earned all-star honors in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference all four years and served as the Lion's captain as a junior and as a senior. She received academic honors for NCAA Division III tennis as a senior.
Holt is a United States Tennis Association-trained coach, and has been certified by the PTR (Professional Tennis Registry). She has worked as a tennis instructor for Coastal Quick Tennis, the Wannamoisett Country Club, the Fall River Community Tennis Association and Fall River CD-Rec.
"I have known Coach Holt for a long time and have seen her grow as a player, as an instructor and as a coach," said Chapman. "She has a lot of positive experience, a friendly manner and is a great addition to our program."
The Corsairs will begin their season September 14th at the College Grass Court Doubles Invitational at the International Tennis Hall of Fame in Newport, RI.
