Women's Tennis Opens at Hall of Fame Doubles Tournament

NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA--The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth women's tennis team will open their 2013 season at the 29th annual Women's Grass Court Doubles Championships Saturday afternoon.

The Corsairs will be one of eight teams competing at the International Tennis Hall of Fame, joining host Salve Regina University, Division 1 Holy Cross, Division 2 Assumption College, Bridgewater State, Curry College and Johnson & Wales University. The action begins at 1:00 p.m.

"This is a great opportunity to kick off our season at the most historic tennis venue in North America," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Doug Chapman. "The competition should be excellent, and playing on grass will be a fun, new experience for our players."

Each team will submit doubles pairs for Flights A, B, and C. Each flight will have a main draw and full consolation draw; all matches are eight-game pro-sets, and there will be a total of 30 matches played.

The Corsairs begin their regular season with a non-conference match against Wentworth Monday at 3:30 p.m., the first of four home matches next week. The Corsairs will also host Suffolk University on Tuesday and Johnson & Wales on Thursday, both at 3:30 p.m., before opening their Little East Conference campaign against Plymouth State Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
