Johnson and Wales Sink Corsairs, 8-1

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Johnson & Wales University continues its undefeated season with an 8-1 victory against the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth women's tennis team in a non-conference contest at the Moses Brown courts on Thursday afternoon.

The Wildcats swept all three doubles matches to jump out to the early lead.  Senior Samantha Jo Borr teamed with sophomore Morgan Thompson for a perfect 8-0 victory at first doubles for the Wildcats.  Borr then posted a 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles with Thompson notching a 6-1, 6-0 win at the second singles spot.

Johnson & Wales also received two wins on the day from wins from junior Stephanie Piperis, sophomore Emily Glass and freshman Taylor Klein. Piperis and Klein notched an 8-3 win at third doubles with both players also picking up wins in singles action.  Piperis notched a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 3 singles with Klein recording a perfect 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 6 singles.  Glass had a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 4 singles and also had an 8-1 win at the second doubles spot for the Wildcats.

The lone win on the day for UMass Dartmouth came from sophomore Jillian Reichert (Marion, Mass.) with a 6-3, 6-1 win at fifth singles. Reichert earned her second singles victory of the season, her first in the No. 5 slot.

With the win, Johnson & Wales remains perfect at 6-0, while UMass Dartmouth falls to 1-1.  The Corsairs travel to Anna Maria on Saturday for a 3:30 pm non-conference matchup.  The following Tuesday, UMass Dartmouth begins conference play when the Corsairs host Rhode Island College at 3:30 pm.
