DARTMOUTH, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth placed third with nine points at the Corsair Spring Fling round-robin tournament on Saturday, as the Corsairs hosted regional opponents Johnson & Wales, Worcester State and Bridgewater State in exhibition play.

How it Happened
A total of 54 no-ad sets were played during the round-robin format, with each team playing 18 singles and nine doubles sets. Johnson & Wales edged Bridgewater State to take home the top prize with 21 points, while the Bears, champions of the Little East Conference, totaled 17 points. Both teams have qualified for the NCAA Division III Tournament next month. Worcester State finished fourth with six points.
In Round One, BSU defeated Worcester, 6-2, while the Wildcats topped the Corsairs, 8-1. Freshman Jaime Fastino (Rehoboth, Mass.) was the lone winner for the Corsairs, topping the Wildcats' Luiza Silva Simoes (Cuiaba, Brazil) 6-2 at No. 2 singles.
The Corsairs fared better in Round Two, edging the Lancers, 5-4. Winners in singles for the Corsairs were juniors Mollie McCaffrey (Taunton, Mass.) 6-3 at No. 2, Samantha Rollings (Tiverton, R.I.) 6-0 at No. 3, Molina Oung (Bourne, Mass.) 6-1 at No. 5 and freshman Melanie Wong (Somerset, Mass.) 6-2 at No. 6. Sophomore Amelia Ralowicz (Lowell, Mass.) and Oung earned the Corsairs lone doubles point, 6-2, at No. 3.
Johnson & Wales topped Worcester State, 9-0, in Round Three to clinch the event title. Bridgewater State edged UMass Dartmouth, 6-3, and finished four points behind the Wildcats. For the Corsairs, Ralowicz and Oung won 6-5 at No. 3 doubles, Oung was a 6-4 winner at No. 5 singles and Wong won 6-0 at No. 6 singles.
