SALEM, MA-Host Salem State won all three doubles matches and defeated the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's women's tennis team, 6-3, in a Little East Conference match at the Salem State College Tennis Courts Tuesday.
The Vikings won at number one, three and five singles to clinch the victory.
For the Corsairs, junior Blair Dalrymple (North Attleboro, MA/North Attleboro HS) won her match at number four singles in straight sets, defeating Jessica Distler, 6-4, 6-0. Junior Amber Ubertini (Dalton, MA/Wahconah HS) defeated Alicia Poore at number two singles in a super-tiebreaker, 7-5, 1-6, (10-5), while freshman Juliet Levangie (Middleboro, MA/Coyle-Cassidy HS) won her sixth singles match in the same fashion, downing Patricia Quartararo, 3-6, 6-4, (10-6). Megan Cote of SSC defeated UMD junior Amy Lopes (Dartmouth, MA/Dartmouth HS) at number one singles, 6-4, 6-2, and Cote and Distler defeated Lopes and sophomore Courtney Morey (Mashpee, MA/Mashpee HS) at number one doubles, 8-6.
"Blair played a solid singles match, and both Amber and Juliet did a nice job coming back in singles after dropping the first set," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Ralph Perry. "Amy had all she could handle in a very tough opponent in Megan Cote, and Amy and Courtney lost to a very good team at number one doubles."
The Corsairs dropped to 5-3 and 3-2 in the Little East Conference with the defeat, while the Vikings improved to 5-1 and 3-0 in LEC play with the victory. UMass Dartmouth will return to action when they host Bridgewater State Saturday.
