CLAREMONT, CA-Sophomore Krista Chauvin (Seekonk, MA/Seekonk HS/Stonehill) finished ninth in the hammer throw at 168 feet, nine inches at the NCAA Division III Championships Friday night.
Chauvin turned in her second best mark of the season at the Burns Track & Field Complex on the campus of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in Southern California.
After fouling on her first two throws, Chauvin hit 168-8 on her third and final throw of the preliminary round to advance to the finals. She fouled on all three of her throws in the finals and finished one spot short of earning All-America honors.
"Krista had two fouls in the trials and was down to her last throw and got herself into the finals with her second best mark of the season," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Steve Gardiner. "She looked good warming up for the finals, but she fouled on all three of her throws. I know that she was disappointed, but when she sits back and sees what happened, she will realize what she accomplished, finishing ninth in the nation."
The performance marked the conclusion of the season for the UMass Dartmouth track and field team.
