NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA-Junior Krista Chauvin (Seekonk, MA/Seekonk HS/Stonehill) of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's track and field team has been honored by the Little East Conference.
Chauvin has been named LEC Women's Field Athlete of the Week.
At Saturday's Tufts Invitational, Chauvin set a school record in the weight throw in her first indoor meet of the season, finishing second overall with a throw of 50 feet, 8 1/4 inches. The mark qualified her for the ECAC, Division III New England and Open New England Championships, and currently ranks as the eighth best mark in the nation in an event in which the top 15 entrants advance to the NCAA Championships.
"It was a great opening meet for Krista," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Steve Gardiner. "In her first indoor meter ever for UMass Dartmouth, Krista broke the school record on her first throw, and has the eighth best throw nationally. She's off to a good start for the indoor season."
The Corsairs will return to action when they travel to Smith this Saturday.
