NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA - Two members of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's track and field team have been honored by the Little East Conference for their performances at last Saturday's New England Division III Championships.
Junior Krista Chauvin (Seekonk, MA/Seekonk HS/Stonehill) was named LEC Women's Field Athlete of the Week, while freshman Justin Conor (Holden, MA/Wachusett Regional HS) was named LEC Men's Rookie Track Athlete of the Week.
Chauvin extended her school record when she finished third in the weight throw at 53 feet, which was another personal best. She also threw the shot put 37 feet, three inches. Conor was third in the 60 meter hurdles in a personal best time of 8.79 seconds.
"Krista continues to improve each week," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Steve Gardiner. "She has thrown further each week and has a goal of qualifying for nationals, and she has a couple more weeks to do it. She has certainly put in the work and the effort to reach that goal."
"Justin has had a real solid freshman year," Gardiner continued. "He shows great potential with his work ethic and his natural ability, and it will just take getting stronger as his career progresses. He has started his career off with a very strong indoor campaign."
The Corsairs will return to action at the Open New England Championships at Boston University next weekend.
