NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA-Two student-athletes earned Little East Conference track and field honors and one of them qualified for the NCAA Division III Championships at the Eastern College Athletic Conference Championships last weekend.
Sophomore Adam Jones (Amesbury, MA/Triton Regional HS) broke the school record when he finished second in the high jump at 6-9 3/4, while junior Krista Chauvin (Seekonk, MA/Seekonk HS/Stonehill) set a school record when she finished third in the weight throw at 53 feet, 1 3/4 inches. Jones qualified for the NCAA Championships this weekend at North Central College in the Chicago area, and currently ranks seventh in the nation in the high jump entering nationals.
"Adam continued his outstanding indoor season at the ECACs, he's been a model of consistency," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Steve Gardiner. "He didn't miss an attempt until he got to 6-9 3/4, which he cleared on his second try. Krista finished third at the ECACs, and this is the sixth time this year she has broken the school record. She concluded an outstanding first indoor season at UMass Dartmouth, and is looking forward to throwing the hammer outdoors."
Jones will compete in the high jump at NCC's Residence Hall Recreation Center at 3:15 p.m. EST this Saturday.
