NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA--Junior Krista Chauvin (Seekonk, MA/Seekonk HS/Stonehill) and freshman Ashley Motta (Swansea, MA/Case HS) of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's track and field team have been honored.
Chauvin has been named LEC Women's Field Athlete of the Week, and Motta has been named LEC Women's Rookie Field Athlete of the Week. It's the second consecutive week in which Chauvin has been honored.
At last Saturday's Corsair Classic, Chauvin won the hammer throw with a toss of 163 feet. Motta also finished first, winning the javelin throw with a toss of 116 feet, 9 inches.
"Krista had another good day, she has the second best throw in Division III right now," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Steve Gardiner. "She's really gearing up for the end of the year. It's nice to see her get some consistent throws every week as she works towards the meets in May. Ashley is a pleasant surprise for us as a freshman. She's had three good meets in a row, and Saturday she got her first collegiate win. Ashley has worked diligently, and I'm really happy with her progress."
The Corsairs will return to action Saturday when they visit the University of Massachusetts.
