NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA--Once again, two members of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's track and field team have been honored by the Little East Conference.
Junior Krista Chauvin (Seekonk, MA/Seekonk HS/Stonehill) was named LEC Women's Field Athlete of the Week, and junior Brett Croteau (Dighton, MA/Dighton-Rehoboth HS) was named LEC Men's Field Athlete of the Week.
At last week's Open New England Championships at Stonehill, Chauvin was first in the hammer with a throw of 182 feet, six inches. She broke the facility record for Stonehill's W.B. Mason Stadium, and currently ranks first in the nation in the hammer. Croteau was second in the javelin with a throw of 198 feet, nine inches, and currently ranks 17th nationally in that event.
"For Krista to win the Open New England Championships is a great accomplishment for any Division III student-athlete," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Steve Gardiner. "It's ironic that she did it at the school where she began her career, and set a facility record. Brett has been very consistent, and had a chance to win the competition down to the very last throw. To place higher in this meet than he ever has shows the direction he is taking as a regional javelin competitor."
The Corsairs will return to action this weekend at the Eastern College Athletic Conference Championships at Springfield.
