SPRINGFIELD, MA--The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's track and field team had several good performances on their first day of competition at the Eastern College Athletic Conference Championships at Springfield's Blake Track Thursday.
In the hammer, junior Krista Chauvin (Seekonk, MA/Seekonk HS/Stonehill) finished first at 176 feet, 10 inches. Junior Brett Croteau (Rehoboth, MA/Dighton-Rehoboth HS) was third in the javelin in 193 feet, 2 ½ inches. Despite not making the finals, freshman Laquaysia Anderson-Jenkins (Brighton, MA/Brighton HS) ran a personal best time of 12.35 seconds at 100 meters, which is the third fastest time in school history. And freshman Ashley Motta (Swansea, MA/Case HS) threw the javelin 97 feet, 10 ½ inches after her javelin did not pass inspection and she had to use an unfamiliar one.
"It was nice to see Krista continue her winning ways, and it was nice for Laquaysia to get a personal best in her last race of the season at 100 meters," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Steve Gardiner.
The meet will conclude Friday.
