NEW ORLEANS, LA-The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's track and field teams have earned national academic honors.
Both the men's team and the women's team have been named Division III All-Academic teams by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
To qualify, a team must post an overall grade point average of 3.10 or better. The women's team, which was honored for the second year in a row, posted an overall 3.27 GPA, while the men's team, which missed the cutoff last year, had an overall GPA of 3.13. UMass Dartmouth was the only public university in New England to have both their men's and women's teams honored.
"I'm very proud of both the men's and women's teams," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Steve Gardiner. "Since day one, one of our team's goals was to be recognized academically, and our team really pursued it. The women have now made it two years in a row, and the guys made it after missing last year by just a tenth of a point."
