NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA--Junior Krista Chauvin (Seekonk, MA/Seekonk HS/Stonehill) of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's track and field team has been honored by the Little East Conference.
Chauvin was recently named LEC Outdoor Field Athlete of the Year.
The first Corsair to earn the LEC women's top outdoor field athlete honor, Chauvin placed fifth in the hammer at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships with a throw of 178 feet, six inches. The LEC champion in the hammer throw, Chauvin set a school record in the hammer when she finished first at the New England Division III Championships with a toss of 188 feet, 10 inches. Chauvin won the hammer throw at the Open New England Championships and the Eastern College Athletic Conference Division III Championships, and was named LEC Women's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week seven times during the season.
"Krista's honor is a great accomplishment," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Steve Gardiner. "She won every championship that she could in the spring, and she went to the NCAAs as the number one seed in the hammer."
