Chauvin and Cutler Set School Records at UMass Boston
BOSTON, Mass. – Senior Krista Chauvin (Seekonk, Mass.) and freshman Kevin Cutler (Attleboro, Mass.) set school records for the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth men's and women's track and field teams in the University of Massachusetts Boston Invitational at the Reggie Lewis Center on Saturday.
Chauvin posted a first place toss of 54' 8 ¼'' in the weight throw, shattering her own indoor hammer throw record (53' 1 ½'') she set last season. Also, she took eighth place in the shot put event with a throw of 35' 10 ¾".
In his first collegiate meet, Cutler recorded jumped 6' 10 ¼'' in the indoor high jump competition, succeeding the previous UMass Dartmouth Indoor high jump record (6' 9 ¾'') set by current teammate Adam Jones (Amesbury, Mass.) during last year's campaign.
On the male's side, senior Zach Switaj finished nearly 20 seconds faster than the rest of the competition in the 3000 meter run (8:47.88), while sophomore Ryan Hayes (Kingston, Mass.) finished in second place in the 1000 meter run (2:36.41). Junior Cody Lusas (Melrose, Mass.) placed third in the shot put with a toss of 44' 08'' and fifth in the weight toss (45'07 ¼"). Freshman Kurt Dreher took fourth in his indoor track and field debut with an 800 meter time of 1:59.31.
