SPRINGFIELD. Mass. – The University of Massachusetts men's and women's track and field teams set competed at the outdoor New England Division III Championship on Saturday.
The men's track and field team set two school records on Saturday. Freshman Kevin Cutler (Attleboro, Mass.) set a new mark in the outdoor high jump with a personal best height of 6-09.75 feet and senior Matt Hinthorne (Braintree, Mass.) came from behind to establish a new university standard in the 800 meter with a third place time of 1:52.87.
In the javelin, senior Brett Croteau (Rehoboth, Mass.) registered a personal best and the third longest toss in UMass Dartmouth history with a mark of 204-03 feet. Croteau placed in second at the meet and lines him up for a shot at qualifying for Nationals. Also in the high jump, junior Adam Jones (Amesbury, Mass.) placed in seventh with a leap of 6-04 feet, respectively.
On the women's side, sophomore LaQuaysia Anderson-Jenkins (Brighton, Mass.) set a new school record in the 200 meter dash with a seventh place time of 25. 34 seconds. The 4x100 team comprised of Barbara Okafor (Hyde Park, Mass.), Michel-Le Meranda (Somerville, Mass.), Ezra Banks (Roxbury, Mass.) and Anderson-Jenkins tripped the at 48.59 seconds to take seventh place. In the 400 meter dash, sophomore Summer Jones (East Bridgewater, Mass.) recorded the second fastest time in school history with a time 58.88 seconds.
UMass Dartmouth returns to action on Friday, May 9, at the New England Open Championships in Westfield, Mass.
