TROY, N.Y. -- The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth women's 4x100-meter relay team captured the 2014 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Championship this afternoon to complete the third and final day of the regional meet.
The Corsairs' 4x100-meter relay team accounted for each of their 10 team points. Sophomore Barbara Okafor (Hyde Park, Mass.), classmate Michel-Le Meranda (Somerville, Mass.), senior Ezra Banks (Roxbury, Mass.), and sophomore LaQuaysia Anderson-Jenkins (Brighton, Mass.) outran the 39-team field with a combined time of 48.29 seconds. Last week, the quartet set the program record (48.08) at the 2014 New England Open Championships.
Anderson-Jenkins also competed in the 200-meter dash, posting a 12th-place time of 25.67 seconds. Sophomore Summer Jones (East Bridgewater, Mass.) raced in the 400-meter event, recording a time of one minute, 1.36 seconds to finish 32nd overall.
On the men's side, sophomore Brandon Jarousky (Attleboro, Mass.) turned in a 15th-place performance in the 200-meter dash when he tripped the timer at 22.37 seconds. Junior Jacob Teixeira (Seekonk, Mass.) crossed the finish line at 58.57 seconds in the 400-meter hurdles to place 27th overall.
The NCAA Division III Selection Committee will announce the participants for the 2014 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championship on Sunday evening. Seniors Matt Hinthorne (Braintree, Mass.) and Brett Croteau (Rehoboth, Mass./Dighton-Rehoboth) are expected to earn a berth into the national meet.
