Corsairs Compete at Boston University Last Chance Qualifier

BOSTON, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth men and women's track and field team competed against all three NCAA divisions at the Last Chance Qualifier on the campus of Boston University on Sunday.

Notable Performers

Sophomore George Papoulis (Haverhill, Mass.) came away with a first-place finish in the third heat of the 800-meter run despite being tripped up on the track as he posted a time of 1:52.44 to finish 13th amongst the field of over 60 runners. Freshman Bruno Pires (New Bedford, Mass.) raced to a second-place finish in the sixth heat of the one-mile run, logging splits of 2:13 in the first 800-meters and 2:05 in the final stretch to finish with a time of 4:18.48.

In the field, senior Jared Louf-Woods (Salem, Mass.) opted out of the weight-throw even though his national-ranking fell to third over the past week. Instead, he had a consistent performance in the shotput, launching six throws over 50-feet, with his longest of the competition coming on his third toss with a distance of 15.92m (52-39) giving him a fourth-place finish in the meet.

On the women's side, senior Raybryana Dasher (New Bedford, Mass.) set a new indoor-record for the program in the 400-meter dash when she sprinted toward a 58.43 finish, coming in first in her heat, and 25th in the field. Emilea Lauzon (Lakeville, Mass.) etched her name on the all-time indoor list for the Corsairs as well, clocking in at 1:01.38 in the same event.

Dasher, Lauzon and junior Taryn Carley (Kingston, Mass.) all made the all-time lists in the 200-meter with 26.38, 26.68, and 26.87 respective times while all competing in separate heats. Freshman Taylor Walsh (Groveland, Mass.) rounded out the performers on the women's side, setting a personal-best of 5:31.34 in the one-mile run.
