NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA-Two members of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's outdoor track and field team have been honored by the Little East Conference.
Freshman Jessica Masse (Somerville, MA/Somerville HS) has been named Little East Conference Women's Rookie Field Athlete of the Week, while sophomore Kyle Costa (Somerset, MA/Somerset HS/Vermont) has been named LEC Men's Rookie Track Athlete of the Week.
At Saturday's LEC and New England Alliance Championships, Masse finished first overall with w throw of 40 feet, 7 1/2 inches. Her throw was both a school and New England Alliance record.
Costa finished first in the LEC and third in the Alliance in the 400 meter hurdles in 57.23 seconds.
"It was great to see Jessica set a school and an Alliance record," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Steve Gardiner. "She came up big on Saturday, throwing as well as she has all year in the biggest meet of the season. She's won this award every week that she has competed. It's the third time Kyle has won this award this spring. He's been a very consistent performer for us both indoors and outdoors. Saturday, he punctuated his season with a Little East championship."
The Corsairs will return to action when they travel to MIT for the New England Division III Championships this weekend.
