NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA-Freshman Jillian Van Ness (Agawam, MA/Agawam HS) of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's indoor track and field team has been honored by the Little East Conference.
Van Ness has been named Little East Conference Rookie Women's Track Athlete of the Week.
At Saturday's Harvard Open, Van Ness broke the school record in the 60 meter dash when she finished 13th in 8.22 seconds. The competition at the meet included student-athletes from NCAA Division I, II and III schools.
"Obviously, we're very pleased to have Jillian as part of our program," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Steve Gardiner. "Jillian is an extremely dedicated athlete, and her work ethic is showing in the performances that she's achieved so far in her young college career."
The Corsairs will take time off for the holidays, returning to action January 15th at the Sorlien Invitational at the University of Rhode Island.
