Senior libero Shannon Brodie
BOSTON, MA-Host UMass Boston swept their Little East Conference match against the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's volleyball team at the Clark Athletic Center Tuesday evening.
UMass Boston, the 17th-ranked team in the NCAA Division III ranks, won, 25-13, 25-12 and 25-7.
Senior outside hitter Allie Mastrocola (Swansea, MA/Case HS) had eight kills, while senior middle blocker Cami Ascher (Natick, MA/Natick HS) added five kills to lead the Corsairs. Junior setter Jess Goncalves (New Bedford, MA/New Bedford HS) had 15 assists, while senior libero Shannon Brodie (Chelmsford, MA/Chelmsford HS) had nine digs.
"We were outmanned," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Steve DeRossi. They were very big and quick, and the tempo they ran is something we couldn't duplicate in practice, and we weren't able to handle the speed of their offense. You can see why they're one of the top-ranked teams in the nation."
The Corsairs dropped to 11-10 and 1-3 in the Little East Conference with the loss, while UMass Boston improved to 18-2 and 4-0 in LEC play with the victory, and is undefeated against Division III teams this season. UMass Dartmouth will return to action when they play Emerson and Colby-Sawyer this weekend.
