NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA-The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's volleyball team has been picked to finish seventh in the annual Little East Conference pre-season poll.
The Corsairs received 20 points in the poll, 10 points ahead of eighth-place Southern Maine.
Defending champion UMass Boston was the unanimous choice to finish first with 64 points and all eight first place votes. Plymouth State was picked to finish second with 50 points. Western Connecticut State and Keene State were chosen to finish third and fourth, with Eastern Connecticut State and Rhode Island College picked for the next two spots.
"Given the number of players we graduated, and the fact that we will have a significant number of freshmen on the squad, I think the prediction is realistic," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Steve DeRossi. "However, I've been extremely pleased with the competitiveness of our group. I think that they will develop quickly."
The Corsairs finished 14-17 overall last year. UMass Dartmouth will begin their 2012 home schedule when they host Mount Ida Saturday afternoon, September 1st.
