NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA-The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's volleyball team turned in a solid effort in defeating visiting Suffolk in a non-conference match at the Tripp Athletic Center Friday evening.
The Corsairs prevailed, 25-20, 25-19 and 25-16.
For UMass Dartmouth, freshman forward Stephanie Antoine (New Bedford, MA/Greater New Bedford Vo Tech HS) had 12 kills, two errors and 22 attempts for a hitting percentage of .455. Freshman outside hitter Brianna Perry (New Bedford, MA/New Bedford HS) added six kills, and senior setter Jess Goncalves (New Bedford, MA/New Bedford HS) added 23 assists. Antoine added three blocks, while outside hitter Linsay Boulay (Swansea, MA/Case HS) had 23 digs.
"Everyone was able to play, and our second unit played extremely well, they were on the court during our best set, the third set," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Steve DeRossi. "We were consistent in all three sets, and we were more consistent than we have been lately."
The Corsairs improved to 18-4 with the victory, while Suffolk dropped to 9-14 with the defeat.
The Corsairs will return to action when they host Wentworth next Thursday night. The Rams will host Rivier next Tuesday.
:"This is the first time we have not had a match on Saturday in five years," said DeRossi. "Next Thursday will be our pink match, when we will observe "Play for the Cure" for the American Cancer Society. We will have a 50-50 raffle, accept donations, and our team will wear "Play for the Cure" pink T-shirts."
