Volleyball's Late Rally Falls Short at Rivier

NASHUA, NH-Host Rivier was tested in the final two sets, but defeated the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's volleyball team in three sets in a non-conference match at the Muldoon Gymnasium Thursday evening. The Raiders prevailed, 25-11, 25-22 and 28-26.

For UMass Dartmouth, Jess Goncalves (New Bedford, MA/New Bedford HS) had 18 assists and two block assists. Freshman outside hitter Stephanie Antoine (New Bedford, MA/Greater New Bedford Vo Tech HS) had 11 kills and two block assists, while junior middle hitter Tahirah Gibson (Norwood, MA/Norwood HS) added three solo blocks.

"In the first set, we left our game on the bus, but we came back in the second and third sets and played as well as we have all year," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Steve DeRossi. "They were the quickest team we've faced all year. We were a half step slot to start, but once we adjusted, we were right in it, and we played well once we got past that first set."

The Corsairs dropped to 20-7 with the defeat, while the Raiders improved to 20-9 with the victory.

The Corsairs will return to action when they visit Western Connecticut and Connecticut College Saturday.
