Volleyball Splits A Pair Of Matches On Homecoming Weekend

NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. - The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth volleyball team swept Husson University, but fell to Little East rival Plymouth State University this afternoon at the Tripp Athletic Center. 

The Corsairs (3-10, 0-2 LEC) won their second match of the day, defeating the Eagles in three sets, 25-13, 21-25, and 25-19.

Freshman setter Christina Spinazola (Medway, Mass.) dished out 17 assists and six digs. Brianna Perry (New Bedford, Mass.) and Katie McEarchern (Wrentham, Mass.) each recorded five kills, while Carina Filosa (Milford, Mass./ Milford) had 10 digs.

Husson's Casey Lopes (New Bedford, Mass.) passed out 15 assists and recorded 12 digs, while Lindsay Chapman (Gorham, Maine) had six kills and 11 digs.   

In the opening match of the day, Little East opponent Plymouth State swept the Corsairs, 25-19, 25-23, and 25-13.

The bright spots for UMass Dartmouth were Eliza Bowes (West Yarmouth, Mass.) with seven kills, Filosa with 17 digs, and Spinazola with three kills, 13 assists, and eight digs.

Jana Nieman (Fair Lawn, N.J.) led the Panthers attack with 11 kills, while Kirsten Perrotta (Hudson, N.H.) handed out 33 assists. Katie Sylvia (Lee, N.H.) also recorded three kills and 20 digs.

The Corsairs are back in action on Oct. 1, when they travel to Mount Ida for a 6 p.m. non-conference match.
