Volleyball sweeps Mount Ida, 3-0
NEWTON, MASS. – The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth volleyball team won their second match in a row, sweeping Mount Ida College Tuesday evening at the Mount Ida Athletic Center, 3-0.
UMass Dartmouth (4-10, 0-2 LEC) won the first set convincingly 25-16, and managed to fend off the Mustangs in the final two sets, 25-20 and 25-22.
The Corsair attack was lead by Madison Shea (Millis, Mass.) and Kelly Lyons (Bourne, Mass.) who each registered seven kills apiece. Sophomore Eliza Bowes (West Yarmouth, Mass.) contributed with six kills of her own.
Freshman setter Christina Spinazola (Medway, Mass.) distributed the ball nicely, recording 19 assists. Libero Carina Filosa (Milford, Mass.) recorded four service aces to go along with a game-high 21 digs.
Mount Ida libero Kelcey Koolman (Bedford, N.H.) registered 19 digs, while setter Nicole Peixoto (New Bedford, Mass.) had nine assists and seven digs.
UMass Dartmouth will play their third consecutive non-conference match, when they host Newbury College Thursday evening.
