Volleyball Drops Three at Geissler Gymnasium

WILLIMANTIC, Conn. – The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth Volleyball team had a tough day losing to Eastern Connecticut 3-0, Framingham State 3-0 and the University of New England 3-0 on Saturday afternoon at the Geissler Gymnasium.

UMass Dartmouth (4-13, 0-3 LEC) is still in search for their first Little East win as Eastern Connecticut defeated the Corsairs 10-25, 21-25 and 25-27.  Standouts for UMass Dartmouth were sophomore Jasmine Burris (New Bedford, Mass. / Greater New Bedford Vo. Tech) with seven kills, freshman Christina Spinazola (Medway, Mass. / Medway) with 15 assists and sophomore Brianna Perry (New Bedford, Mass. / New Bedford) with 13 digs.

The Corsair's fell in their second match of the day to non-conference opponent Framingham State, 25-17, 25-14 and 25-20. Seniors Tahirah Gibson (Norwood, Mass. / Norwood) and Kelly Lyons (Bourne, Mass. / Bourne) recorded five kills each, while sophomore libero Carina Filosa (Milford, Mass. / Milford) recorded 12 digs.

UMass Dartmouth seemed to have run out of gas by the third game, losing to the University of New England 25-18, 25-23, 25-15. Gibson led the Corsairs with four kills and Filosa registered 10 digs.

UMass Dartmouth returns to Little East play when they travel to Rhode Island College on Tuesday for a 6 pm match.
