PROVIDENCE, R.I – The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth volleyball team registered their first Little East Conference (LEC) victory of the season as they defeated Rhode Island College, 3-1.
UMass Dartmouth (6-13, 1-3 LEC) bounced back from a tough outing on Saturday to overpower Rhode Island (1-19, 0-3 LEC) in four sets 25-22, 20-25, 25-19, 25-14.
The Corsairs had a triple threat attack with Tahirah Gibson (Norwood, Mass. / Norwood ) and Brianna Perry (New Bedford, Mass. / New Bedford ) recording 10 kills each and Madison Shea (Millis, Mass. / Millis ) delivering nine kills. Perry also contributed 13 digs and four service aces. Sophomore libero Carina Filosa (Milford, Mass. / Milford ) recorded a game-high 28 digs and freshman setter Christina Spinazola (Medway, Mass. / Medway ) compiled 32 assists.
For the Anchorwomen, Amanda Cabral (Riverside, R.I. / East Providence) recorded a team-high nine kills, Lauren Palazzini (Woonsocket, R.I. / Mt. St. Charles) had 18 assists and 14 digs, and Emma Cajthaml (El Cajon, Calif. / El Capitan) registered ten assists and 8 digs.
The Corsairs have an entire week of rest until they travel on Tuesday, Oct. 15 to UMass Boston.
