Corsairs Defeated by Johnson and Wales

NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. -- The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth volleyball team fell to Johnson and Wales University in three sets on Wednesday evening at the Tripp Athletic Center.

UMass Dartmouth was shutout in consecutive sets 25-19, 25-19 and 25-18. The Corsairs dropped to 7-18 on the year, while Johnson and Wales improved to 9-18.

Standouts for UMass Dartmouth were senior Tahirah Gibson (Norwood, Mass.) and sophomore Brianna Perry (New Bedford, Mass.) who each had six kills. Freshman Christina Spinazola (Medway, Mass.) dished out a game-high 16 assists, while sophomore Carina Filosa (Milford, Mass.) and Perry contributed 12 digs a piece.

The Wildcat defensive front proved to be very strong as the team compiled a total of 14 blocks. Leading the attack was junior Carey Kirk (Purcellville, Va.) who recorded a game-high eight blocks (two solo). Aiding Kirk was senior Megan Bollerman (Mahwah, N.J.) with four total blocks and sophomore Marissa Bunnewith (Millbury, Mass.) with two blocks. On the offensive side of the ball, junior Alyssa Drapeau (Biddeford, Maine) recorded a game-high seven kills and senior Ashley Rey (Miami, Fla.) registered six kills. Senior Kasey Higgins distributed a team-high 13 assists.  

On Saturday the Corsairs host a double-header against Keene State University at noon and Wesleyan College at 4 p.m. at the Tripp Athletic Center.
