KEENE, N.H. -- Junior Nicole Silverman (Chelmsford, Mass.) notched 18 kills, 28 digs and five service aces as UMass Dartmouth split a college volleyball tri-match with Keene State and Maine-Presque Isle Saturday afternoon at Spaulding Gym, as the Corsairs dropped a 3-0 Little East Conference decision to the host Owls before sweeping a 3-0 non-league outing from the Owls.
Senior Amanda LaCroix (East Freetown, Mass.) registered 10 kills and eight digs in UMass Dartmouth’s (7-10, 0-4 LEC) 25-8, 25-11, 25-23 nightcap triumph over Maine-Presque Isle (7-12), while fellow senior Kristy Walton (Fairhaven, Mass.) collected nine kills and three digs for the winners. Silverman added seven kills, 10 digs and a pair of service aces for the Corsairs, who received six kills from junior Samantha Sedano (Valley Glen, Calif.) along with three kills and four digs from freshman Mallory Singer (Succasunna, N.J.). Sophomore Riley Thomas (Fairhaven, Mass.) recorded 33 set assists and seven digs in the victory for UMass Dartmouth, which received 18 digs from junior Jillian Sykora (Waterford, Conn.).
Sophomore Miranda Washinawatok (Shawano, Wis.) posted a double-double effort of 10 kills, 11 digs and a block solo in the middle match setback for Maine-Presque Isle, which received three kills and 13 digs from sophomore Maddi Thweatt (Middleton, Idaho). Junior Laura Aroz (Tucson, Ariz.) added 16 set assists and four digs for the Owls, who received 10 digs from freshman Chandler Westin (Denver, Colo.).
Sophomore Megan Palmer (East Islip, N.Y.) notched a double-double effort of 13 kills and 10 digs in Keene State’s (17-5, 4-1 LEC) 25-16, 25-15, 25-16 Little East win in the opening match, as junior Olivia Mathieu (Derry, N.H.) added eight kills and nine digs for the hosts. Senior Niamh Dodd (Mahopac, N.Y.) chipped in with five kills and three digs for the Owls, who received four kills and three digs each from junior Kelly Hunt (Milford, Conn.) and freshman Elizabeth Johnson (Rockledge, Fla.). Sophomore Bailey Wilson (Moorpark, Calif.) chipped in with 31 set assists and seven digs in the lid-lifter for Keene State, which received 15 digs from junior Kait West (Hopkinton, Mass.).
Silverman registered a double-double performance of 12 kills, 18 digs and three service aces in the opening setback for the Corsairs, who received eight kills from Walton and five kills each from Singer and Sedano. Thomas added 27 set assists and eight digs for UMass Dartmouth, which received 17 digs from Sykora along with six digs from LaCroix.
UMass Dartmouth hosts Eastern Connecticut in a Little East Conference outing on Tuesday evening at the Tripp Athletic Center beginning at 7:00 pm, while Keene State hosts Western New England in a non-league match on Thursday evening at Spaulding Gymnasium that also begins at 7:00 pm. Maine-Presque Isle hosts Maine-Fort Kent in a non-league doubleheader next Saturday, October 13th in Presque Isle, Maine beginning at Noon.
