DARTMOUTH, Mass. -- Sophomore Faith Gray-Williams (Las Vegas, Nev.) registered eight kills, nine digs and 14 set assists to lead Simmons to a 3-1 non-league college volleyball victory over UMass Dartmouth Tuesday evening at the Tripp Athletic Center.
Freshman Reilly Coombs (Deland, Fla.) added eight kills, nine digs and a pair of service aces in the triumph for the visiting Sharks (5-6), who took the contest by game scores of 25-17, 25-19, 18-25 and 25-19. Freshman Amanda Fortune (Round Rock, Tex.) notched eight kills, two service aces and a block solo for the winners, who received six kills and three block solos from sophomore Megan Purser (Miami, Fla.). Sophomore Riley Roberge (Peoria, Ariz.) and freshman Krissy Lloyd (Tampa, Fla.) combined for seven kills for Simmons, which received a combined 17 digs from sophomores Julia Fusco (Beverly, Mass.) and Morgan Lauvray (Murrieta, Calif.).
Senior Amanda LaCroix (East Freetown, Mass.) recorded a match-high 10 kills to go with seven digs in the setback for the host Corsairs (5-3), who received nine kills, eight digs and a pair of service aces from junior Nicole Silverman (Chelmsford, Mass.) along with six kills from senior Kristy Walton (Fairhaven, Mass.). Junior Samantha Sedano (Valley Glen, Calif.) chipped in with seven service aces and a pair of kills for UMass Dartmouth, which received 25 set assists and four digs from junior Jordan Rittberger (Huntington, N.Y.) along with 13 digs and three service aces from junior Jillian Sykora (Waterford, Conn.).
UMass Dartmouth hosts Babson in a non-league match on Thursday evening at the Tripp Athletic Center beginning at 7:00 pm, while Simmons heads to Standish, Maine on Saturday afternoon for a Great Northeast Athletic Conference clash with Saint Joseph’s (Maine) that begins at Noon.
