DARTMOUTH, Mass. -- Junior Nicole Silverman (Chelmsford, Mass.) notched a double-double effort of 13 kills and 15 digs to lead UMass Dartmouth to a 3-1 non-league college volleyball victory over the University of New England Saturday afternoon at the Tripp Athletic Center.
After dropping the opening set by a 25-16 margin, the host Corsairs (6-8) eked out a pair of two-point triumphs (25-23 & 26-24) in the second and third frames before using a nine-point service run from senior Amanda LaCroix (East Freetown, Mass.) in a 25-11 fourth set win. LaCroix added seven kills, five service aces and 19 digs on the day for UMass Dartmouth, which received seven kills from senior Kristy Walton (Fairhaven, Mass.) along with six kills and four digs from junior Samantha Sedano (Valley Glen, Calif.). Freshman Molly Porch (New Hartford, Conn.) chipped in with five kills for the hosts, who received 22 set assists and nine digs from sophomore Riley Thomas (Fairhaven, Mass.), 21 digs, five set assists and three service aces from junior Jillian Sykora (Waterford, Conn.) as well as five set assists and three digs from junior Jordan Rittberger (Huntington, N.Y.).
Senior Rene Roggenbuck (Goffstown, N.H.) registered 14 kills and five digs in the setback for the visiting Nor’easters (4-11), who received five kills and 10 digs from junior Katie Flynn (Merrimack, N.H.) along with four kills from sophomore Micaela McNamara (Westminster, Mass.). Junior Paige Simoneau (Hudson, N.H.) collected three kills, seven digs and a pair of service aces for the University of New England, which received 23 set assists and three digs from sophomore Sydney Christiansen (Palatine, Ill.) as well as 20 digs, three service aces and a pair of set assists from junior Katie Marsh (Melbourne, Australia).
UMass Dartmouth heads to Bridgewater, Mass. on Tuesday evening to take on Bridgewater State in a non-league outing beginning at 6:00 pm, while the University of New England travels to Lewiston, Maine on Tuesday evening to square off with Bates in a non-league match that also begins at 6:00 pm.
