NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA-The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's volleyball team fell to both visiting UMass Boston and Plymouth State in a three-way Little East Conference match at the Tripp Athletic Center Saturday. The Corsairs lost to the Beacons in four games, 12-25, 25-18, 25-13 and 25-10, and fell to the Panthers in three games, 25-22, 25-14 and 26-24. UMass Boston downed Plymouth State in three games, 25-14, 25-23 and 25-21.
Senior setter Melanie Staiger (Bournedale, MA/Bourne HS) had 18 assists for the Corsairs, freshman outside hitter Allie Mastrocola (Swansea, MA/Case HS) had six kills and 10 digs, senior outside hitter Jackie Davis (Swansea, MA/Case HS) also had six kills, senior middle blocker Hilary Teichert (Pocasset, MA/Bourne HS) had five blocks, and senior outside hitter Nazare Cardoso (Brockton, MA/Brockton HS) had nine digs.
"We started off well in the first match, and we got better in the second match," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Steve DeRossi. "Against Plymouth State, we gave up nine points on unforced errors in the second game, and we had trouble stopping Eliza Badeau, who moved around and attacked from different places on the court. I wish we would have won, because it was the last game for our seniors on their home court."
The Corsairs are now 12-11 and 1-4 in the Little East Conference, while UMass Boston is 21-7 and 3-1 and Plymouth State is 16-11 and 2-4. UMass Dartmouth will return to action when they visit Rivier Thursday evening, while UMass Boston visits Emerson Tuesday, and PSU hosts Salem State Tuesday.
