NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA-The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's volleyball team defeated visiting Mount Ida, 3-0 (25-19, 25-13, 25-17), in a non-conference match at the Tripp Athletic Center Saturday evening.
Junior outside hitter Allie Mastrocola (Swansea, MA/Case HS) led the Corsairs with 16 kills, while senior outside hitter Eleni Tsaparakis (Norwalk, CT/Norwalk HS) and junior middle hitter Cami Ascher (Natick, MA/Natick HS) added six kills apiece. Sophomore setter Jess Goncalves (New Bedford, MA/New Bedford HS) added 34 assists. "She managed to find all the hitters on the floor for us tonight," said UMass Dartmouth head coach Steve De Rossi. Goncalves also added three service aces for the Corsairs.
Defensively, junior libero Shannon Brodie (Chelmsford, MA/Chelmsford HS) tallied 12 digs and junior outside hitter Suzanne Landry (Tiverton, RI/ Tiverton (CCRI)) had two blocks. "We were very consistent all night, had solid passing, overall we had an outstanding team performance," said De Rossi.
The Corsairs improved to 2-0 with the victory, while the Mustangs fell to 0-2 with the defeat. UMass Dartmouth will return to action when they host Salve Regina Wednesday evening. Mount Ida will host Framingham State Tuesday.
