NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA-The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's volleyball team defeated visiting Salve Regina in three games in a non-conference match at the Tripp Athletic Center Tuesday evening. The Corsairs were victorious, 25-15, 25-18 and 25-22.
Senior outside hitter Eleni Tsaparakis (Norwalk, CT/Norwalk HS), Junior outside hitter Allie Mastrocola (Swansea, MA/Case HS) and junior middle hitter Cami Ascher (Natick, MA/Natick HS) all played well for UMass Dartmouth. Tsaparakis led the Corsairs with 12 kills, Mastrocola added 10, while Ascher contributed seven kills and four blocks. Sophomore setter Jess Goncalves (New Bedford, MA/New Bedford HS) had 22 assists, while junior libero Amanda Micco (Waltham, MA/Waltham HS) led the way on defense with 11 digs.
"We weren't as crisp as we were Saturday, but we came through at the end when we needed to," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Steve DeRossi. "Allie was perfect in serve reception, which allowed us to run our offense, and we had a strong serving game that took them out of their serve reception. We are where we hoped to be at this point, and we're pleased. Hopefully, we can keep it going."
The Corsairs improved to 3-0 with the victory, while the Seahawks fell to 0-3 with the defeat. UMass Dartmouth will return to action when they host Salem State and Simmons on the first day of the two-day UMD Invitational Friday evening. Salve Regina will play MIT and Plymouth State Saturday.
