NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA-The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's volleyball team won their third consecutive match on the second day of action at the two-day UMass Dartmouth Invitational at the Tripp Athletic Center Saturday. The Corsairs defeated Eastern Nazarene in three games, winning, 25-14, 25-11 and 25-11.
For UMD, senior outside hitter Eleni Tsaparakis (Norwalk, CT/Norwalk HS) led the way with nine kills, junior outside hitter Allie Mastrocola (Swansea, MA/Case HS) added eight, senior outside hitter Lauren Safioleas (New Bedford, MA/New Bedford HS) had six kills, and junior middle hitter Cami Ascher (Natick, MA/Natick HS) had five. Sophomore setter Jess Goncalves (New Bedford, MA/New Bedford HS) added 25 assists. Junior middle blocker Suzanne Landry (Tiverton, RI/Tiverton HS/CCRI) had two blocks, and Tsaparakis added one.
"We were very consistent at the net," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Steve DeRossi. "Jess had a phenomenal serving game, She finished with 25 service aces, and 10 of her other serves were so tough, they prevented the other team from running their offense. Defensively, we received serve extremely well. We only had one reception error for the entire match." UMass Dartmouth improved to 6-0 with the wins, while Eastern Nazarene is now 0-7. The tournament will conclude later Saturday.
