SALEM, MA-For the second time this season, the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's volleyball team earned a three-game sweep against Salem State, The Corsairs defeated the Vikings, 25-10, 25-19 and 25-18 in a non-conference match at the Twohig Gymnasium Tuesday evening.
Sophomore setter Jess Goncalves (New Bedford, MA/New Bedford HS) and freshman setter Bianca Cabral (Dartmouth, MA/Dartmouth HS) both saw action, with Goncalves handing out 15 assists and Cabral 12. Senior outside hitter Eleni Tsaparakis (Norwalk, CT/Norwalk HS) had 12 kills, junior outside hitter Allie Mastrocola (Swansea, MA/Case HS) added eight and junior middle hitter Cami Ascher (Natick, MA/Natick HS) had five. Tsaparakis had three blocks, while junior middle blocker Kaitlin Hogan (Tewksbury, MA/Shawsheen Tech) and Ascher each had two. Junior libero Shannon Brodie (Chelmsford, MA/Chelmsford HS) had eight digs.
"We dug well, and we served well, although we weren't as dominant as we were last weekend," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Steve DeRossi. "Everybody got into the match, and we worked a couple of things with different combinations that could help us down the road. We accomplished a lot today."
The Corsairs improved to 8-0 with the victory, while the Vikings fell to 2-7 with the defeat. UMass Dartmouth will return to action when they host Pine Manor Thursday.
