NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA-Visiting Rivier defeated the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's volleyball team on Senior Night at the Tripp Athletic Center Thursday evening. The Raiders won 25-18, 25-19 and 25-18.
Prior to the match, UMass Dartmouth honored seniors Allie Mastrocola (Swansea, MA/Case HS), Shannon Brodie (Chelmsford, MA/Chelmsford HS), Stacey Miner (Greenfield, MA/Greenfield HS), Amanda Micco (Waltham, MA/Waltham HS), Kaitlin Hogan (Tewksbury, MA/Shawsheen Tech), Cami Ascher (Natick, MA/Natick HS), and Kelsey Craveiro (Freetown, MA/Apponequet HS) as well as manager Tori Davis.
Ascher led the Corsairs with 10 kills, Mastrocola added seven, Brodie had seven digs and junior setter Jess Goncalves (New Bedford, MA/New Bedford HS) added 26 assists.
"We played them tough at the beginning, and after it was tied at 16-16 we actually moved ahead by a couple of points, but they ran off the last nine points," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Steve DeRossi. "The same thing happened in the third game. It was a tight game and they ran off several points in a row and we were behind from that point on. Rivier was one of the toughest serving teams we've faced all year. Our seniors were disappointed, but hopefully, we can come back with two good performances Saturday, which is Play for the Cure Day."
The Corsairs dropped to 13-16 with the defeat, while the Raiders improved to 17-13 with the victory. UMass Dartmouth will return to action when they host Western Connecticut State and Framingham State Saturday. Rivier will host Westfield State and Mass Maritime Saturday.
