Volleyball Sixth in LEC Pre-Season Poll

Sept. 1, 2009

NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA-The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's volleyball team has been ranked sixth in annual Little East Conference Coaches' Pre-Season Poll.

The Corsairs received 22 points, placing them six points ahead of Rhode Island College and 12 in front of Southern Maine.

UMass Boston received four first place votes and 59 points, Keene State was next with 56 points and three first-place votes, and Western Connecticut State received 44 points and the other first place vote. Plymouth got 41 points, and Eastern Connecticut State 40.

"Based on our performance last year, I think that it's realistic in the eyes of the other coaches," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Steve DeRossi. "Based on what I've seen so far in the pre-season, I'd like to think that we have the potential to inch up a little bit in the poll."

The Corsairs were 12-14 last year, finishing sixth in the LEC with a 1-5 conference mark. They will open their season Thursday evening at Eastern Nazarene.
