NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA-Once again, two members of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth cross country team have been honored by the Little East Conference.
Sophomore Katie Sheehan (Scituate, MA/Scituate HS) was named LEC Women's Runner of the Week, while freshman Michael Vaz (Dartmouth, MA/Greater New Bedford Vo Tech High School) was named LEC men's Rookie Runner of the Week.
At Saturday's Wesleyan Invitational, Sheehan finished fifth in 19:29, while Vaz was 40th overall in 28:42,
"Both Katie and Mike ran perfect races for the course," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Jon Hird. "They sized up the course as one that east you up if you go out hard. Katie was 36th at the mile mark and 16th at the two mile mark and ran a race that the best one designed for the course. Mike ran a very similar race, he was fourth or fifth for us at the mile, and he kept coming and working his way up. That's the second time in three weeks he has finished as our number two guy, and that help solidify our pack, which we need to do in order to be successful."
The Corsairs will return to action when they travel to Westfield State a week from Saturday.
