Women's Cross Country Takes 6th at Bowdoin Invitational

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth men's and women's cross country teams finished in third and sixth place at the Bowdoin College Invitational on Saturday.
The UMass Dartmouth women's team recorded 181 points to place sixth in the team standings. Freshman Jennifer Miranda (New Bedford, Mass.) led the Corsairs across the finish line, posting a 6-kilometer time of 25 minutes, 44.85 seconds. Classmate Reme Digiovanni (Southborough, Mass.) was 26 seconds of Scott's pace. Freshman Mary Leach (Peabody, Mass.), junior Brittani Atkinson (Peabody, Mass.) and freshman Rachel Frazier (Mansfield, Mass.) completed the Corsairs' scoring.
Tufts' Olivia Beltrani won the women's title with a time of 22 minutes, 40.26 seconds.
The UMass Dartmouth men's team compiled 103 points, finishing behind Bowdoin (27) and Tufts (59). Senior Zach Switaj (Tamworth, N.H.) was the first Corsair runner to cross the finish line with a 10th place time of 26 minutes, 43.20 seconds. Junior Matt Ferro (Halifax, Mass.) covered the 8-kilometer course in 27 minutes, 16.09 seconds to place 21st overall. Senior Chris Jordan (Taunton, Mass.) finished 29th, while sophomore Michael Vaz (Dartmouth, Mass.) and classmate in Andrew Goncalves (New Bedford, Mass.) completed UMass Dartmouth's top-five.
Tufts' Ben Wallis captured the men's individual race, covering the course in a time of 25 minutes, 28.52 seconds.
The UMass Dartmouth harriers will be back in action on Saturday, Oct. 12, when the Corsairs compete at the James Earley Invitational (Westfield State).
