DARTMOUTH, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth men's cross country team placed 17th out of 40 universities to participate in the 45th Annual UMass Dartmouth Cross Country Invitational. On the women's side, three Corsairs ran for top-200 finishes out of the 300-plus participants.
Men: 17th of 40 teams (578 points)
Women: 24th of 40 teams (651 points)
How it Happened
Out of the 300-plus runners that took part in the 8K run, no Corsair finished lower than 188th. Freshman Bruno Pires(New Bedford, Mass.) continued his strong start to his collegiate running career by registering a 22nd place finish, crossing the line in 26:10.
As for the women's 5K race, in which the Corsairs placed 24th overall as a team, Jesssica O'Reilly (Millis, Mass.) came in at a time of 20:10, good for an average mile of 6:30. Freshman Taylor Walsh (Groveland, Mass.) completed the event less than 30 seconds after her teammate, tallying a time of 20:39.
Junior Jason Karakaedos (Peabody, Mass.) cracked the top 90 coming in at 88th place, finishing in 27:36. Tyree Gorham (Brockton, Mass.), Brandon DeSilva (Brockton, Mass.), and Timothy Post (North Attleboro, Mass.) all followed up soon after, with the three finishing 57 seconds within each other.
The men's and women's cross country teams will travel to Boston, Mass. to take part in the Codfish Bowl at Franklin Park, scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 23.
