DARTMOUTH, Mass. -- Senior Eddie Riley (Quincy, Mass.) rapped out three hits to back a seven-inning six-hit performance on the mound by freshman Dylan Fashempour (Redlands, Calif.), as UMass Boston extended its winning streak to nine straight with a 7-1 Little East Conference baseball victory over UMass Dartmouth Tuesday afternoon at the UMD Baseball Field.
The visiting Beacons (24-10, 11-3 LEC) overcame a 1-0 deficit to even matters in the top of the fourth after Riley singled and scored on junior Danny Brown’s (Hudson, N.H.) RBI single to center, and UMass Boston took the lead for good in the fifth on back-to-back run-scoring singles off the bats of senior Kyle Boudrias (Medford, Mass.) and junior Nick Cotraro (Beverly, Mass.). The visitors tacked on two more in the sixth on senior Nick Herzog’s (Riverhead, N.Y.) and an RBI single by senior Josh Lopez (New Haven, Conn.), and the Beacons closed out the scoring in the eighth on respective run-scoring singles through the right and left sides from Boudrias and Riley to account for the final margin.
Boudrias and Brown each added a pair of hits as part of a 10-hit attack in the triumph for UMass Boston, as Fashempour allowed an unearned run and recorded a strikeout to improve to 4-2 on the season. Junior JR DiSarcina (Barnstable, Mass.) provided the host Corsairs (16-18, 7-7 LEC) with their lone run of the day in the bottom of the third with an RBI single, as he joined senior Chris Wood (Berkley, Mass.) and junior Nate Tellier (Attleboro, Mass.) in collecting two hits each as part of an eight-hit performance by UMass Dartmouth. Freshman Chase Stafford (Somerset, Mass.) went the first 5 1/3 frames on the mound to suffer the setback for the hosts, who saw their four-game winning streak come to an end.
