Men's Basketball Suffers 91-78 Non-League Setback At Tufts

MEDFORD, Mass. --  Junior Luke Rogers (Boxboro, Mass.) posted a double-double effort of 25 points and 23 rebounds to lead Tufts to a 91-78 non-league college men’s basketball victory over UMass Dartmouth Tuesday evening at Cousens Gymnasium.

Sophomore Tyler Aronson (Holliston, Mass.) scored 19 of his 24 points in the opening half of action as the host Jumbos (2-0) raced out to a 47-29 advantage at the break, but the visiting Corsairs (4-1) stormed out of the gates after intermission with a 31-13 run over an 8:45 stretch to close back to within three (63-60) on senior Harry Alexander’s (Washington, D.C.) lay-in with 11:15 remaining.  Rogers sparked a 7-0 run with two lay-ups that pushed Tufts’ edge back to double digits, as UMass Dartmouth got no closer than eight points in the closing 8:33 of action.

Rogers connected on 10-of-12 attempts from the floor for the winners, who five three-pointers and four rebounds from Aronson.  Junior Brennan Morris (East Hampstead, N.H.) added a double-double performance of 14 points (including four three-pointers) and 10 boards for the Jumbos, who collected 10 points, six assists and five caroms from senior Eric Savage (South Brunswick, N.J.).  Tufts shot 44 percent (32-73) from the field (including 13 three-pointers) and held a 54-32 rebounding advantage for the contest.

Sophomore Adam Seablom (Lakeville, Mass.) scored 21 points on a 10-of-15 effort from the floor in the setback for the Corsairs, who received 15 points, five assists and four rebounds from sophomore Marcus Azor (Brockton, Mass.).  Alexander added 14 points and nine boards for the visitors, who received 13 points from junior Jake Ashworth (Fairhaven, Mass.).  Sophomore Matt Valles (Fairhaven, Mass.) chipped in with nine points and four caroms for UMass Dartmouth, which shot 46 percent (33-72) from the field on the evening.

The Corsairs travel to Gorham, Maine on Saturday afternoon to square off with Southern Maine in its Little East Conference opener that tips-off at 3:00 pm, while Tufts entertains Lasell in a non-league outing on Thursday evening at Cousens Gymnasium that tips-off at 7:00 pm.
